Match Design Colors In Just One Click! | How to Use Canva Color Picker Tutorial

In this post you’ll learn exactly how to use the color picker in Canva plus a bonus tip, hint, it has to do with a springtime favorite.

So let’s get started.

So now I have Canva open and I’m gonna walk you guys through the steps.

Luckily it’s very simple.

First, we’re gonna start by opening up just a basic canva template.

So I’m gonna just click this Instagram post template, which is a favorite of mine for pretty much any basic design I’m making since it’s a good size for most things and you can tweak it later.

Next, then we’re gonna go over here and we’re gonna click an element. 0:28 Let’s say we wanna make this, you know, we have big news to share and we can say that I really want this to match this color. 0:40 So all you’re gonna do is you’re gonna head up here to this little color box in the top left corner and you’re gonna select it. 0:48 Then we’re gonna head over here and you can see here, I’ve got my brand colors, but we wanna match this. 0:54 So what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna come over here to this multicolor plus button on the left and we are gonna select this sweet little color picker. 1:03 And once we select it, you’ll see this circle show up and we’re gonna head down and hover over the color we wanna match. 1:10 And then boom. Now the background is that color. So that’s another quick tip is make sure you select whatever it is that you want to match. 1:21 So I want this to be this color, so I’m gonna select it first. So I’m gonna select that bubble. Then I’m gonna come over to the color button, select the color picker, and head on down and select the color I want. 1:35 And now it matches. So I’ll do it one more time real quick for you guys. So we’re gonna say, let’s say we want the font to match as well. 1:43 So we’re gonna head up here to text color at the top, we’re gonna hit our colorful plus button down to our color picker and head over and hover over the color he wants. 1:53 That’s one way to do it. And now it matches. I’m gonna show you the second way to do it. Once you matched the one you want, you can head over here and you can actually see that there’s a button called document colors or a a tab, a little area. 2:10 And that’s all the colors in the whole thing. So not only could you use the color picker, but you can also, if it’s a an image or it’s a document, a graphic, you can use that as well. 2:22 So for this, I don’t have to use the color picker. I can just head over here and I can change the colors to match whatever I would like it to in this design. 2:31 Now I’ll show you one more example of when you might need a color picker. So let’s head over here to, we’ll go to images. 2:42 Okay, So we’re gonna type in flower and we’re gonna go to photos. Cause this is a really nifty thing if you want because you’ll see there’s no color option here.

0:01 If you wanted to change the color of an image just within Canva, I like to head over here. It’s a little less specific, but you go to edit image and then we’re gonna head over to the left here. 0:13 And I like to select duo tone, and you’ll give a, you’ll see that it’ll give us a bunch of options to change the color so we could make it blush. 0:23 And what I like about this is you can click this customized button and then you can actually change the colors that it gives you. 0:30 So if I wanted it to match let’s see. We’ll do a light color and then we’ll come down here and we’ll do a darker color. 0:39 And boom. Now look, it matches our color palette perfectly. And so now if I wanted to put this in my design, I could come over here and if I wanna, let’s say I wanna replace that, and I want it to be right here. 0:53 Now I have a matching color image instead of this big blue one, I now have one that matches.
